How to be healthier: go for a walk

I saw this video yesterday and it inspired me to go for a walk every day. Well, we’ll see if that is the case because I haven’t actually gone for a walk yet. I am going to go today. I may have mentioned that I like running. I will talk about that more another time but running is not something you can/should do when you are not well. Walking on the other hand, is totally doable.

I have a daughter, she is two now, almost three years old. She catches a cold every so often as kids are wont to do but I have this particularly bad habit of catching it from her almost every time which means that I also catch a cold on a regular basis and this stops me from going for a run. (That sentence was much longer than recommended for blogging or writing in general.) To make a point, I will tell you that I am now recovering from a cold.

So I saw this video and I thought to myself, I can do this. I can go for a 30 minute walk every day. It doesn’t matter if it is raining or snowing, or even if I have a cold so today, either now, before lunch, or just after lunch I am going for a 30 minute walk. Let’s see if I can keep it up.

I have never made a New Year’s Resolution because I thought that if you want to do something why wait until New Years Day to start but as this is so close to the beginning of the year I think it qualifies as one so this is my New Years resolution: the least exercise I will do every day is a 30 minute walk. Follow me on Twitter @deadhippo to see if I can keep it.

Do you have any New Years resolutions? If not, why don’t you go for a walk?
